The place

The new Norwegian Jekt Trade Museum, opened in 2019, is located in the city of Bodø. It offers a fascinating maritime history of long-distance stockfish trade, portrayed through ancient Norway’s last surviving vessel; ‘Anna Karoline,’ built in 1876, with roots harking back to the Viking era.

The project

This unique exhibition and outdoor landscape lets visitors experience the history of Nordland. Centered around the authentic jekt vessel, along with numerous other objects, images, scenography and interactive elements, the exhibition facilitates learning and recreates the feel and tone of Nordland. PIXILAB Blocks, along with 20 Intel NUCs running PIXILAB software, makes up the media system. This includes

bilingual, interactive touch-stations, lighting control, synchronized multi-channel soundscapes/effects and lighting. Two vertically mounted projectors, playing 2400x1920 pixels of video from a single player, provide a scenographic backdrop. While being a fully automated system, mobile devices used by on-site staff allows for manual overrides of audio levels and other presentation aspects.

“Kvorning Design decided to introduce Blocks on a large permanent exhibition project for one of our dedicated Norwegian clients – The Jekt Trade Museum in Bodø. It has been a really good experience – for us and for the museum. Easy to work with during development and installation – and it still runs perfectly after two years. We have only had very positive response from the client.”
