Housed in the old Palace of Liberty, originally opened in 1876, the Museum of the City of Manaus portrays cultural aspects of the area. It brings to life the history of indigenous people, with artifacts from everyday life and key historical events.
The client wanted to depict a number of Manaus locals giving their description of the city, then diving into water and swimming away. The system had to be completely automated, including power management.
One area used eight vertical 70-inch monitors arranged as a circle around a central projection, filling the floor with what looks like water. Persons appear on the monitors to give their testimony and then dive into the water. Another area used nine 56-inch monitors mounted on the ceiling, images reflected by the water surface below.
