The brief

The client had seen table mapping with shows being played across the table and upon the plates before in other countries. He found the concept mesmerising and beautiful and wanted to create his own show following the ideas of his Brand.

“Blocks is extremely versatile, gives a great end user experience, simple content editing and excellent developer tools.”

The project

PIXILAB Blocks carried the show, all the way from the interactive tablets to the tabletop projection, sound and lighting effects. Android tablets where used by the hosts to control the presentations, based on customized Blocks compositions. Likewise, customized tablets were used as menus, letting up to twelve guest per table  each choose their desired dish, making it appear instantly projected onto each plate. Projectors were driven live by PIXILAB Players based on the choices made by hosts and guests. For the largest table, requiring several projectors, Dataton WATCHOUT was incorporated by means of an NDI network link from Blocks. Custom text, entered by the hosts, blended into the tabletop

projection in real time. Lighting was driven by Blocks through ArtNet/DMX-512 for effects and a KNX sub-system for the architectural lighting. Likewise, Blocks controlled multiple audio channels for music and ambience through a Symetrix audio processor. For special occasions, content can be customized for guests. Personalized photos, visuals and text messages can be projected on tables, allowing guests to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries or even make a marriage proposal as a part of their dining experience.
