A BLOCKS STORY

The Lofotr
Viking Museum

LOFOTEN, NORWAY

The place.

Meet the Vikings. Smell the tar, taste the food, feel the history. The Lofotr Viking Museum is a historical museum based on a reconstruction and archaeological excavation of a Viking chieftain's village.

The brief.

In preparation for the 2017 season, the Viking Museum had to replace an outdated and discontinued audio-visual system that required a lot of maintenance.

One of the questions was whether guests could use their own mobiles as audio guides throughout the exhibits. Another challenge in this remote location is that cellular and internet connectivity is very limited, making it virtually impossible for guests to download an app. Therefore, the Viking Museum could not use existing mobile audio guide system as they were all "app" based.

“In PIXILAB Blocks, the audio guide runs on our visitors’ phones, using just a web browser.
That was very good news for us”
