PIXILAB Player release notes

In general, there's no reason to upgrade PIXILAB Player in an existing installation if it's running well, unless you know that a newer version provides some functionality that you need.

Version 6.2

Based on [https://porteus-kiosk.org/changelog-releases.html#5.5.0|Porteus Kiosk 5.5]] plus rolling releases as per https://porteus-kiosk.org/changelog-automatic-updates.html#230930. Linux kernel 6.1.46, Chrome 108.0.5359.124 Now also support 12th, 13th Generation Intel® Core™ iX Processors with Intel® Iris® and Intel® UHD graphics, N100 with Intel® UHD

Tested on Intel NUC13ANKi5(Core® i5), ASUS PN42 (Intel N100), ASUS PN63 (AMD Ryzen®7), Intel NUC11ATKC2 (Intel® Celeron® N4505) (Will also work on most elderly generations of processor series) The player web configurator has been updated to select the modesetting driver. For manual configuration please add the "gpu_driver=modesetting" to kiosk configuration file.

Same as 6.1.1, fixes a bug that prevented use of additional storage for block-caching (persistence)

Version 6.1.1

Same as 6.1 but fixes issue with multichannel audio failing if no audio is played as the browser is loaded. Fixes issue with the potential to break pxe boat in version 6.1.

Version 6.0

Released alongside Blocks version 6.0 on 2022-12-14, with the following new features:

  • Block Caching minimizes data traffic over wifi or the internet – it even lets players work offline for stand-alone playback.
  • Watchdog to automatically reload the player should the browser become unresponsive or crash.

Based on Porteus Kiosk 5.4 with Linux kernel 5.15.28 and Google Chrome 98.0.4758.102.

Version 5.2

Based on Porteus Kiosk 5.4 with Linux kernel 5.15.28 and Google Chrome 98.0.4758.102. Policies for allowing local video input (USB capture devices) and similar features over http without user intervention is now set automatically based Blocks server URL.

Version 5.1

Based on Porteus Kiosk 5.3 with Linux kernel 5.10.73 and Google Chrome 93.0.4577.82. There's now an experimental flag to enable hardware accelerated video decoding, which works well on Intel graphics chipsets.

Version 5.0

Based on Porteus Kiosk 5.2 with Linux kernel 5.10.25 and Google Chrome 87.0.4280.141.
